2010 represents my 10th year at Davisville, 9th year on the board and 7th as President of the club. 2010 will see a lot of changes at the club. We are resurfacing, we will have new lights, we will have new nets, we will have new net posts. We also have a new pro and assistant pro in Alastair and Matt. Hopefully you will all agree that these changes are good ones for the club.
Resurfacing the club takes up to 3 weeks out of the season. As a result, the rest of the time that the club is open will be a little bit more congested with events than normal. We will be doing our best to try to keep the courts available as much as possible – especially during the end of the season where we will see a lot of tournament play. We invite all of you to get out to play as much as possible.
At Davisville, we strive to offer our members the best tennis experience possible. Whether that is with the best facilities, best staff or best organization we hope that you will agree that we do things right. You deserve the best.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to ask me at any time.
Have a great season,
Stuart
Tennis has always been a part of my life. I was first a competitive
junior player, then an instructor, then ran the Queen's University
tennis club, and was even club pro for a private tennis club at one
point. Sadly I peaked long ago, but that doesn't mean that I don't
enjoy myself!
I joined Davisville in Spring 2007, and that same season joined the
Board in Fall 2007 as the club's Vice President. Among other things,
my portfolio includes hiring and managing the Court Manager and
Stewards, coordinating opening day and the Annual General meeting, as
well as ongoing policy and governance at the club.
An Electrical Engineering graduate, I currently work in the
neighborhood as an Advisor to the Ontario Energy Board in Electricity
Facilities and Infrastructure.

Although I moved to Toronto, Canada back in 2005 I feel I am only just now getting use to the winters; which is Australia was the season we would play the most tennis (it gets too damn hot in the summers). I have been a member at Davisville Tennis Club since 2007 and join the Board of Directors in 2008 as the Communications Director. It has been a great opportunity for me to gaining valuable Board experience whilst leveraging my background in Marketing and Branding; I currently manage a group of Desktop Publishers for a Canadian wholesale bank. Whilst I have enjoyed my time on the Board I am would be interested in passing on this opportunity to another member next year, so contact me if you might be interested.

Previously, I was a road cyclist and only started to play tennis in the spring of 2009. Immediately I was hooked on the game and after pretty much taking up residence at the club last summer, I was invited to become the new “Social Director.” So, for all you new members, remember that anything is possible if you try! I have enjoyed working with the board over the winter months and found it very interesting to learn about how the club works. (A lot more work goes into it then you would imagine!) But the experience is rewarding, I have met some great friends and had a lot of laughs. I look forward to seeing YOU at all the fun events I have planned for 2010! Don't be shy! Come say HI!
